Instructions for Setting Up PowerChart and CORES for Inpatient Service Model

The following instructions are the easiest way to add patients and assign services:

Open PowerChart, click on the CORES button.

The first time you open CORES, it may ask you if you want to view the Entire Hospital Census or just your Team Patient List. Choose your Team List. You can click on Preferences in CORES to change the Default View to Team Patient List.

The first time you open CORES, you need to select your Team and SubTeams (all three columns at the top). Select University Cardiology in the FIRST column.

Select all the subteams in the SECOND column.

Select all the subteams in the THIRD column.

To add a patient to a service, click Add Patient and search for the patient.

Here I am searching the inpatient census for a patient named Smith. I can click on the patient name (red arrow) and open them in PowerChart.

After opening the patient in PowerChart (and making sure they are the only patient open), I can go to the Hospital List Utility and click Add Pt (red arrow). After filling in the outpatient cardiologist and room number, I can click the Assign Service button (red arrow).

Most of these fields should be automatically filled in. Click Submit.

After the utility picks a service, click OK and then close the patient in PowerChart.

After I closed the patient in PowerChart, I am back in CORES. I click the checkbox next to the patient in CORES (green arrows) and add the patient to CORES.

Now that I know what service this patient is going to, I am going to select this service and click Add Selected Patents (red arrows).

You will need to assign a PerfectServe Contact. This is usually going to be the fellow or nurse practicioner on the service. Click the little edit icon on the right side of the PerfectServe Contact column.

Search for the provider and click on them. Then, send a PerfectServe message to the provider and the attending to notify them of the consult (if they are still in house).

To change a patient's service, first go into the hospital list utility (or inpatient assigner website), remove the old assignment, and make a new assignment for that patient. Once you know the name of the new service, you can just click the service in CORES and select the new team.

When you change a patient's service, you should also change their PerfectServe Contact to the appropriate fellow.

Here are instructions for adding the Acker Service, Rawson Service, etc. Patient Lists to PowerChart. This is optional, because you can manage everything in CORES too (see above):

Open PowerChart, click on Patient List, then click on List Maintenance button.

Click New.

Select CareTeam and click Next

On the right hand column, select University Cardiology- Aker Service and click next.

After you click finish, you have to add this list to your active lists. Click the list in the left hand side and click the arrow to move it over to the right. Click Finish.

Repeat this process add the Acker Service, London Service, and Rawson Service lists to your PowerChart. You may also want to add the CHF, EP, and Procedures service lists. You must exit PowerChart and re-login to save you changes.

If you need to configure the UT Master Hospital List in PowerChart click here.

To add a patient to a list, find the patient in PowerChart, and right click Add to a patient list and then choose the new list.

To remove a patient from the list, right click on the patient and choose Remove from List.
